HOUSTON — Police are looking for a man who sucker punched an 88-year-old woman as she was leaving a grocery store. The attack happened March 8 in front of a crowd of people outside the HEB store at 5225 Buffalo Speedway, police said.
Houston Police released video on Thursday that shows Mary Rutkowski walking out of the store near the plants on the front walkway. A man who was sitting outside in a wheel chair is seen on the video punching Rutkowski in the face.
Rutkowski falls to the ground and startled onlookers rush to her aid, while the man casually gets out of the wheel chair and pushes it through the parking lot.
Rutkowski’s daughter turned and saw her mother on the ground and ran to help as the man who assaulted her walked away.
“She just kept saying, ‘He hit me! He hit me!’ and I said, ‘Who?'” her daughter Annette Stewart told ABC-13.
Rutkowski said the assault left her physically stunned, and she had ringing in her ears for weeks, according to a KPRC report. Police are looking for a black man, possibly in his 40s.
