Bryant was only 41
Legendary NBA player Kobe Bryant died in a helicopter crash Sunday in the hills of Calabasas, Calif., the LA Times reports. Four others also perished after the helicopter erupted in flames and went down in foggy conditions. The crash sparked a brush fire that impeded firefighters and other first responders, according to a watch commander with the Los Angeles County Sheriff Dept.
Little else is known, but ESPN reports that authorities are investigating. Bryant, 41, won five NBA titles with the Los Angeles Lakers and was fourth on the NBA’s all-time scoring list, with 33,643 points. He retired in 2016. TMZ, which broke the story, says Bryant’s wife Vanessa was apparently not on board.
