She sweeps the Grammys Top 4 major awards
The 2020 Grammys are in the books, and the night was a record-breaking one for 18-year-old Billie Eilish. She became the first female artist to sweep the four major awards: best new artist, record of the year, album of the year, and song of the year, reports Billboard. For good measure, she also won a fifth Grammy, best pop vocal album. All the awards stem from debut album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? The record and song of the year were for her hit “Bad Guy.” The only other artist to sweep the top four was Christopher Cross back in 1981.
Another milestone for Eilish: She is the youngest solo performer to win album of the year, notes CNN. Taylor Swift managed the feat at age 20. Eilish’s 22-year-old brother, Finneas O’Connell (who goes professionally by just his first name, in all-caps), also took home five Grammys for his work producing and collaborating on the album. They famously made it together in their Los Angeles home, and much of it deals with depression. “It’s like anything is possible,” Eilish said after the show, per the AP.
