A man who attempted to break in to the home of an 82-year-old, award-winning body builder got far more than he bargained for after he ended up in the hospital.
Willie Murphy, who says she can deadlift 225 pounds, told 13 WHAM that she at home getting ready for bed on Thursday night, when just after 11 p.m. she began hearing a man pounding on her front door, begging her for help. The man claimed to be sick, begging her to call an ambulance.
However, the 82-year-old didn’t buy it, telling the man that she called police, who could help, and refused to let the man inside. Murphy says that’s when the man became so angry, he broke her door and went inside her home.
“He picked the wrong house to break into,” she told the news outlet.
Turns out, Murphy has spent her retirement at the local Maplewood YMCA, where she works out and has even won awards for her bodybuilding. The home invader made his way through Murphy’s home, which was dark, allowing her the chance to hide. As he approached, she says she picked up the closet thing she could find.
“I picked up the table, and I went to work on him,” she said. “The table broke. And when he’s down, I’m jumping on him.”

At that point, the suspect was injured and down, but Murphy wasn’t done with him yet. She says she went to grab a bottle of shampoo and began pouring it out all over him.
“I grabbed the shampoo,” she said. “Guess what? He’s still on the ground. In his face, all of it, the whole thing.”
She even used a broom to try and keep the suspect off-balance.
“I got the broom,” said Murphy. “He’s pulling the broom. I’m hitting him with the broom.”
At this point, police arrived and arrested the suspect. Murphy says the first responders were big fans of her quick-thinking actions to stop the home invasion.
“The officers that came wanted to go on my front porch and take selfies with me,” she said.
